Meet Nathanael. Creator of CICATRIX
Nathanael Paul was born and partially raised in the island of Trinidad to Jasmin & Steve Paul. His parents pastored their own church and Paul participated weekly in services by playing the drums and performing in occasional stage plays. Upon moving to America with what seemed to be a “perfect family” took a turn for the worse when his father was convicted as a sexual offender. The arrest left Paul, his mother and sister abandoned. His father’s absence led Paul to suffer from depression as a teenager. In 2003, years after his mother moved him and his sister (Natalia Elizabeth) to the U.S., Paul had proven to be an academic scholar and became the first in his family to attend a four-year college. Paul also excelled on the basketball court but a knee injury would sideline his NBA dreams. Dealing with depression once again, Paul turned to writing as a form of therapy. He took that newly discovered passion to a degree in Communications and landed a job in TV news after graduation. After a failed marriage that also produced a son, Paul found himself living in and out of hotels until he found a church that allowed him to rediscover his passion for stage plays and creative writing. There Paul found balance and the healing he needed through the form of writing and shared those experiences with audiences in the form of plays for the church. Now as a single father, Paul has gone on to establish a career in TV news as an Executive producer and is now pursuing his dream of having a TV Drama series highlighting his experiences on a major network. Paul and his sister came together to write a story about emotional and physical scars in a new light.
